Boston Daily Brief: Blizzard cleanup, transit recovery, and Logan delays
Boston, MA – February 26, 2026 – Boston digs out from Monday’s blizzard: schools are back, transit stabilizes, and Logan warns of delays today.
Blizzard recovery: City cleanup, schools back
Boston Public Schools returned to class Wednesday as crews continue hauling snow and widening streets after Monday’s major storm. The city lifted its snow emergency and parking ban earlier this week, and officials urged residents and businesses to keep sidewalks passable and curb ramps clear as temperatures and refreezing cycles create slippery spots.
City leaders also reminded drivers to follow rules around space savers and to use 311 to flag problem areas, especially near school routes and intersections.
Transit update: MBTA service returns, with South Coast exceptions
The MBTA says most subway, bus, and commuter rail service is back on standard weekday schedules, though some areas that took the hardest hit are still working through equipment and infrastructure issues. Commuter Rail riders on the Fall River/New Bedford line were told to expect a modified schedule while crews clear switches, platforms, and parking areas and address snow and ice impacts.
Even where schedules look normal on paper, riders should still plan a little extra time as the system resets after the storm.
Logan Airport: Expect delays as flights normalize
At Logan, Massport has warned travelers to check flight status before heading in, noting that delays and cancellations can linger as airlines reposition aircraft and crews and as the region continues digging out. If you’re traveling, build in extra time for airport road conditions, parking, and security lines that can fluctuate after a major weather disruption.
