Bristol ordinance hearing will examine citation-officer penalty rules
Bristol residents, property owners and businesses can attend a public hearing Tuesday, August 4, on proposed changes to the city’s rules for penalties assessed in offenses enforced by citation officers.
The Bristol City Council Ordinance Committee scheduled the hearing for 4:55 p.m. at City Hall. The proposal concerns Chapter 23, Section 23-5 of the Bristol Code of Ordinances, identified in the legal notice as “Penalties for offenses.”
What the notice says
The notice identifies the code section under review but does not state the proposed penalty amounts. It also does not list every violation that could be affected.
The hearing is a public step in the ordinance process, not a final change to Bristol law. The proposal could be revised, withdrawn, rejected or referred after public comment and committee review. Any amendment would need subsequent official action before it could take effect.
The city said publication of the complete ordinance text was omitted because of its length. Copies are available for public distribution through the City Clerk’s Office during office hours. That list shows the kinds of local rules connected to Bristol’s ordinance and citation framework, but it does not establish which violations or penalty amounts are included in the August 4 proposal.
Residents should not assume that a particular violation or dollar amount will change until they review the complete ordinance text or a later official action record.
What to watch next
The immediate issue is the committee’s public hearing and any testimony concerning Section 23-5. After the hearing, residents should look for the complete proposal, committee minutes, any recommendation and any subsequent City Council action in Bristol’s official agenda and ordinance records.
A July 7 Ordinance Committee agenda separately listed a request involving an increase to a blight-violation fee. That item provides context about recent ordinance work, but it does not establish the terms of the August 4 proposal.
