Brownsburg development activity surged in first half of 2026, report shows
BROWNSBURG, Ind. โ Brownsburg saw substantial year-over-year increases in residential construction, commercial projects and planning cases during the first half of 2026, according to a report presented to the Brownsburg Town Council on June 25.
The report described a broad increase across several types of development activity compared with the first half of 2025. It did not identify the exact percentage or count for each category, so the size of the individual increases cannot be quantified from the report.
Business investment and annexation
The townโs State of the Town information says businesses committed $988 million in new investments in Brownsburg during 2025. That figure exceeded the $906.6 million committed during the entire 2020-through-2024 period, according to the town.
The investment figures describe business commitments, not necessarily completed construction. They also do not establish that every commitment is located within Brownsburgโs current boundaries or that each project has reached the same stage of development.
Town council records show continuing work on annexation and economic-development matters. Resolution 2026-15 established a fiscal plan for the annexation of real estate at 8720 East County Road 750 North.
Establishing a fiscal plan is an administrative step in the annexation process. It does not by itself show that the annexation has been completed or that development at the property has been built.
The council also confirmed a real-property tax-abatement application for Prologis through Resolution 2026-09C. The resolution documents the application and council action; it does not establish the final amount or duration of any tax benefit.
Zoning rules are being updated
Brownsburg is also updating its Unified Development Ordinance, the townโs rules for development and land use. The town held public open-house opportunities on Aug. 5 and Aug. 7, 2026, as part of that update.
The timing places the ordinance work alongside a period of increased residential, commercial and planning activity. The update gives residents and property owners an opportunity to follow how the townโs development rules are being revised while officials manage annexation and economic-development actions.
What residents can track
Increased construction and planning activity can affect decisions involving housing, roads, utilities and other infrastructure. It can also shape discussions about school and public-safety planning, public-service capacity and the townโs future tax base.
The available figures do not mean that every proposed project will be built or that every land-use change will receive final approval. They do show that Brownsburgโs planning workload and business-investment activity were elevated during the period covered by the June report.
For residents, commuters, renters, homeowners, taxpayers and local businesses, the next steps include tracking annexation actions, project approvals, tax-abatement decisions and the Unified Development Ordinance update as those matters move through the townโs public process.
