Carrollton Daily: Data Center Plan Paused, Weekend Events and Election Prep
Carrollton, GA — February 7, 2026 — Data center project paused, busy weekend of concerts and hoops, and key election dates ahead for voters.
Data center proposal put on hold
A massive data center once proposed for about 350 acres in northern Carroll County is now on pause. After documents filed in January outlined plans for 12 buildings, two substations, and billions of dollars in private investment, the developer has withdrawn the project for the time being. The site, near Vaughn, Center Point, Terrell and Mandeville roads, would have required annexation and rezoning before construction could move forward.
The proposal, backed by a Carrollton-based company, had drawn attention for its potential tax revenue and several hundred new jobs, but also for its scale and infrastructure demands. With the application pulled, county and city officials no longer have an active plan in front of them, though the land remains positioned for future development. Neighbors and local leaders will be watching closely to see whether a revised version of the project returns later this year.
Weekend events around town
Carrollton heads into the weekend with a full slate of things to do. Friday featured the Carroll Symphony Orchestra’s winter Masterworks concert at the Carroll County Schools Performing Arts Center, trivia nights, live music downtown, and community gatherings across the city.
Today, families can start early with the February Funtastic activities at Carrollton High School, then head to Bradley Street for the Enchanted Evening Valentine’s dances at the historic train depot. Later in the day, gospel fans will find singing at Liberty Church Road, while crafters and volunteers join a National Sew Day gathering on Bradley Street.
Sports fans get their turn tonight at The Coliseum, where the University of West Georgia men’s team hosts Jacksonville in non-conference basketball action. Around all of this, the “Inspired by the Cosmos” art exhibition continues at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, offering a quieter indoor option through mid‑February.
Looking ahead to local elections
Carroll County election officials are already looking ahead to this year’s votes. The Elections and Voter Registration office has posted qualifying dates for local candidates in early March, with paperwork handled at the county administration building on Newnan Road. The Board of Elections and Registration will meet next on February 19, followed by another regular meeting on March 19.
Residents can review 2025 election results, confirm their voter registration, and find links to the Secretary of State’s resources through the county website. With May and November elections on the calendar, officials are encouraging voters to check their information now so there are no surprises when advance voting opens.
