It’s Saturday, February 7, 2026, and while the week ended quietly on the breaking-news front, City Hall and community partners have rolled out several updates that will shape neighborhoods, beautification work and spring events.

City targets aging homes with new pilot

Earlier this week, the city announced a Residential Property Improvement Pilot Program aimed at helping homeowners modernize older houses and stabilize mature neighborhoods.

The pilot is designed to encourage reinvestment, boost property values and offer extra support for low- to moderate-income and older residents who may struggle to keep up with repairs. It also gives first-time buyers another tool to tackle needed improvements and is meant to address small code issues before they grow into costly problems.

City staff will be watching how the pilot performs through 2026, with an eye toward expanding or adjusting it if demand is strong.

Keep Centerville Beautiful ramps up

Centerville’s long-running focus on curb appeal is getting a formal boost through the new Keep Centerville Beautiful program, which joins a statewide and national network of community beautification efforts.

The local initiative will coordinate litter cleanups, landscape projects, seasonal awards and educational programs aimed at keeping streets, parks and business districts clean and welcoming. Officials say the effort is also about civic pride, giving residents more chances to volunteer and help shape the look and feel of their city.

Community garage sale set for late April

Registration is now open for the Great American Community Garage Sale, a three-day event planned for April 30 through May 2 across Centerville and Washington Township.

Residents who sign up by the early April deadline will be included in an official sale directory and can pick up a complimentary yard sign from several public buildings. The city expects hundreds of sales spread across neighborhoods, making it one of the year’s largest community-wide events.

Looking ahead

The garage sale is part of a broader slate of America 250 celebrations and local history programming planned throughout 2026, along with new nature and recreation offerings from the park district. Online registration for many spring park programs opens February 9, giving families a chance to plan ahead once the snow finally melts.
