Charleston County approves conservation funding for two Edisto Island properties

Charleston County Council approved funding April 28 for two FY2026 Greenbelt projects on Edisto Island, covering a combined 12.1 acres and directing $905,000 in listed Greenbelt funds toward conservation work.

The projects are Historic Store Creek Corner, a 2.5-acre property, and a 9.6-acre conservation easement associated with the Edisto Island Museum. The county’s Greenbelt applications table identifies the Edisto Island Open Land Trust as the applicant for the relevant projects.

Historic Store Creek Corner

Historic Store Creek Corner has a listed total purchase price of $770,000. The county table also lists a $770,000 Greenbelt purchase amount and $65,000 for minor improvements, bringing the total Greenbelt funds listed for the project to $835,000.

The acquisition type is fee-simple reimbursement. The project is marked “approved with condition,” distinguishing the funding action from a completed closing or final transfer of the property.

The property’s size and name connect the project to the preservation of a historic and open-land resource on Edisto Island. The county’s approval directs the largest share of the two projects’ listed conservation funding to this site.

Edisto Island Museum easement

The Edisto Island Museum conservation easement is listed at 9.6 acres. Its entry shows a total purchase price of $185,000 and $70,000 in Greenbelt funds.

Together, the two approved projects account for nearly 12.1 acres. The approvals are intended to limit future development and protect historic or open-land resources, while the easement’s public-access terms have not been identified in the county listing.

The Greenbelt action does not by itself establish that either property is open to the public. The county listing also does not provide a closing date for either project.

Charleston County separately lists an Aug. 6, 2026, meeting concerning beachfront jurisdictional lines, including Edisto Beach. That meeting is a separate county matter from the Greenbelt approvals but provides the next listed date in the county’s Edisto-area schedule.
