On Oct. 20, Cherokee County said it was gathering public input to update its Hazard Mitigation Plan and linked to a Public Risk Assessment Survey. The survey is the countyโs stated route for residents to contribute to the update.
A county notice scheduled a public meeting for Oct. 16, 2026, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Cherokee County Courthouse Annex, 165 E. 6th St. in Rusk. The Wells calendar listed the event as โHazard Mitigation Action Plan Update Meeting No. 2โ and named Cherokee County and seven cities: Jacksonville, Rusk, Alto, New Summerfield, Gallatin, Cuney and Wells. It encouraged people to attend and share information for future decision-making.
The county and Wells notices do not confirm whether the meeting occurred or report an outcome. They do not establish an adopted plan, selected mitigation actions or approved funding.
