Cherry Hill road work continues on Route 70 and Kresson Road

Cherry Hill Township is managing overlapping construction on two major corridors as the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Camden County and New Jersey American Water carry out separate projects. The work may create delays, traffic shifts and detours during the summer, with key anticipated completion targets in August.

The township issued a construction update July 15, and Cherry Hill Patch reported July 22 that residents and commuters should expect increased traffic and delays. The township said it is coordinating with agencies and contractors through measures that include police involvement, MyCherryHill updates, letters to affected residents and contractor notices.

Route 70 work runs from Route 38 to Cooper Avenue

The NJDOT Route 70 corridor project extends from Route 38 to Cooper Avenue through Cherry Hill. The broader project covers portions of Pennsauken, Cherry Hill and Evesham townships. In Cherry Hill, the work includes pavement improvements, drainage upgrades, traffic-signal work, sidewalk and curb-ramp reconstruction, pedestrian improvements and utility work.

NJDOT says the project includes improvements to 28 traffic signals, new or improved pedestrian connections, drainage upgrades and reconstruction of deteriorated roadway sections. The department lists August 2026 as the anticipated construction completion date. That is a target, not a guarantee that every portion of the corridor will be finished on the same day.

NJDOT also says construction can affect NJ Transit bus stops along Route 70 when work occurs in outside lanes or shoulders. The agency identifies Routes 406 and 450 as bus routes using the corridor. It also says access to Cherry Hill Township Fire Station 2 will be affected during construction, with emergency-service adjustments planned by the township.

Kresson Road has a separate county reconstruction project

Camden County is reconstructing 2.1 miles of Kresson Road from Browning Lane to Cropwell Road. The county describes the project as a $7.5 million investment that includes roadway repaving, stormwater-pipe replacement, traffic-signal upgrades, pedestrian improvements, new ADA curb ramps, updated striping and signage, and dedicated bike lanes.

The county says the Kresson Road work is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2026. County records also say traffic flow will be maintained during construction, but that does not eliminate the possibility of delays or changing work-zone conditions.

American Water work overlaps Kresson Road

New Jersey American Water is carrying out a separate utility project along Kresson Road between Springdale Road and Cropwell Road. The company announced a roughly $2.5 million investment to replace nearly one mile of aging water main with a new 16-inch ductile iron main.

American Water’s original notice projected completion by June 2026. Because that target has passed, residents should not treat it as the current status of the work. The notice confirms the project area and scope, but the township’s July update and current agency notices are better sources for checking what work remains and whether daily traffic controls have changed.

What Cherry Hill travelers should watch

These are three related projects in the same community, but they are not one unified construction contract. NJDOT is responsible for the Route 70 corridor, Camden County is responsible for the Kresson Road reconstruction, and American Water is responsible for the water-main replacement.

Residents, businesses, commuters and emergency-service users should allow extra travel time on Route 70 and Kresson Road and check current township, agency and utility notices before traveling. The available sources establish the project limits and anticipated completion windows, but they do not provide a complete daily list of lane closures or detour routes. Specific traffic instructions may change as crews move through different portions of the corridors.
