Clive Wins $1 Million Federal Investment for Alice’s Road Reconstruction

Clive is set to receive a $1 million federal investment for planned reconstruction of Alice’s Road between Berkshire Parkway and Meredith Drive, U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn announced June 15, 2026.

The funding comes through the fiscal year 2026 Community Project Funding process and advances work on what officials describe as the last unimproved stretch of a major corridor connecting Clive, Waukee and Urbandale in Dallas County.

Planned changes on Alice’s Road

The planned project includes a roundabout, safer turning movements, a shared-use path and a sidewalk. Those features are intended to address the corridor’s transportation needs for people driving, walking and biking, while also supporting access near nearby development.

The project is being pursued by Clive with the City of Waukee. Snyder and Associates is working with the two cities, the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The federal announcement identifies the project limits as Berkshire Parkway to Meredith Drive. It does not state that the $1 million will cover the project’s full cost, and it does not provide a final construction completion date or an exact schedule for federal disbursement.

Traffic closure tied to phase two

A July 13 update from Waukee says Alice’s Road was closed to through traffic between NE Horizon Drive and NE Dellwood Drive for phase two beginning March 24, 2026. Those limits are narrower than the overall project limits identified in the congressional announcement.

The closure notice identifies the project as involving the City of Clive. It provides a current construction-related traffic detail for that portion of Alice’s Road, but the approved announcements do not specify when the phase-two closure will end or provide a completion date for the broader reconstruction.

The listed roundabout, turning improvements, shared-use path and sidewalk remain planned features in the federal announcement. That announcement does not establish that every feature is already under construction.

What happens next

The next known step is continued coordination among Clive, Waukee, Snyder and Associates, the Des Moines MPO and Iowa DOT as the project moves forward with the federal investment. No final total project cost, completion deadline or federal payment schedule has been announced in the approved materials.
