Coherent Logistics Building Begins Scheduled Sherman Expansion Work

Construction is scheduled to begin August 3, 2026, on a new logistics-building addition at Coherent’s Sherman manufacturing facility, adding a documented construction milestone to the company’s larger semiconductor expansion.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists the project at 6800 S. U.S. 75 in Sherman. The registered plan calls for a 45,904-square-foot addition to the existing building for logistics operations. TDLR lists an estimated cost of $16,212,819, or about $16.21 million.

Registered schedule runs through January

TDLR identifies the project as privately funded and states that it is on private land for private use. The record lists August 3, 2026, as the start date and January 29, 2027, as the completion date.

The project’s current status is Project Registered. That means the record documents a planned construction project and its registered schedule; it does not establish that work has been completed or that the building is operating.

TDLR describes the facility as an expansion for logistics operations. The record does not specify final staffing, operating capacity, tenants or a separate economic-impact figure for the addition.

June Sherman permits show related work

The City of Sherman’s June 2026 building permit report shows several other Coherent projects at the same facility. Permits issued June 17 covered renovation of existing laboratory space, including a test-prober renovation and work in Zone 4 bays, along with a retrofit for semiconductor-fabrication furnaces.

Those permits are separate from the newly registered logistics-building addition. Together, they document multiple construction and equipment-related actions at Coherent’s Sherman operation, but they do not show that the broader expansion is complete.

Broader expansion remains partly proposed or projected

Coherent announced in June that it had signed a letter of intent for up to $50 million in proposed CHIPS and Science Act funding for the broader Sherman expansion. The company said the completed expansion is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs, including more than 550 direct advanced-manufacturing, engineering and technical positions. It also said the expansion would double manufacturing production space and quadruple wafer-production capacity.

Those are company projections for the larger expansion, not results confirmed by the logistics-building record. Associated Press reporting independently described the Sherman project and reported that Coherent estimated the factory expansion would create 1,000 jobs, double plant floorspace and quadruple output. AP also reported broader federal support that included $33 million approved during the Biden administration and an additional $17 million grant during the Trump administration.

The proposed CHIPS letter of intent, projected jobs and production targets should therefore be kept separate from the specific logistics project. The TDLR record confirms a registered construction plan, not a final federal award, an operating building or completion of the full manufacturing expansion.

The immediate milestone is the scheduled August 3 start date for the logistics-building addition at Coherent’s 6800 S. U.S. 75 facility. The registered construction period ends January 29, 2027, although the actual schedule could change.

For Sherman, the documented local consequence is a planned logistics addition supporting an existing semiconductor manufacturing site. The available records show where the work is planned, what it is expected to cost and when it is scheduled. They do not yet show that the building is complete, operational or producing the broader employment and manufacturing results Coherent has projected.
