Colleyville Daily Brief: February 7, 2026
Here’s a quick look at what’s happening around Colleyville as the weekend gets underway.
City backs facelift for key shopping corner
Colleyville City Council has approved a $100,000 reimbursement grant to help bring new life to the former 99 Cents Only Store at Cheek-Sparger Road and SH 26. The funds will support exterior renovations as Texas-based resale chain Thrift Giant converts the long-vacant site into a store focused on designer clothing, accessories and housewares.
The company is investing about $1.5 million of its own money to overhaul the building, including new landscaping, upgraded parking, fresh stonework and paint, and updated signage. City officials say the project is meant to clean up a tired but highly visible corner and signal that older centers can be refreshed rather than left empty.
Attorney general records request touches Colleyville Heritage
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is responding to a request from the Texas attorney general’s office for documents tied to the Islamic Games, a Muslim sports event that had inquired about using Colleyville Heritage High School for a May competition.
State officials are seeking emails, contracts and other records involving the district, the event organizers and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, one of the event’s sponsors. The district has said that while there was a rental request for May 9–10, no facility agreement was ever finalized and talks were halted after state leaders labeled one sponsor a terrorist organization. GCISD is pointing to its local policies that govern how community groups can rent school facilities while it reviews what must be turned over.
Schools, seniors and community events
The school district is also highlighting student success and new programs this week. At a recent Grapevine Young Professionals luncheon, two high school seniors shared how career and technical education courses in GCISD have shaped their plans after graduation, part of a broader push to spotlight CTE Month.
Families of third- through fifth-graders are being encouraged to sign up for upcoming CodeWiz after-school STEM camps, which will run at several elementary campuses, including Colleyville. District leaders are also reminding families that the application window for next year’s tuition-based Pre-K 3 program closed Friday, with limited open-enrollment options tied to where families live and work.
Looking ahead, the Colleyville Senior Center is preparing a Valentine’s Day Celebration on Friday, February 13, featuring an ice cream social, door prizes and a canned food drive benefiting a local pantry. The midday event is open to adults 50 and older with senior center membership and encourages attendees to bring donations if they are able.
