Columbia gas slips as diesel rises in Aug. 3 price check

The Columbia metro average was $3.776 per gallon for regular gasoline and $4.910 per gallon for diesel. AAA’s figures are metro averages, not the price at every Columbia station.
Regular gas eased, but remains well above last year
Regular gasoline was down 0.4 cents from the previous day and 2.9 cents from a week earlier. The average was still 31.1 cents higher than a month ago and 81.4 cents higher than a year ago.
That means gasoline commuters may see modest short-term relief compared with the previous day and week, even as fuel remains substantially more expensive than it was last summer. Households planning weekend travel or trips to local events may still notice the difference when filling a larger vehicle or making multiple stops.
Diesel moved higher across every comparison
Diesel averaged $4.910 per gallon in the Columbia metro, up 4.0 cents from the previous day and 9.7 cents from a week earlier. It was also 39.1 cents higher than a month ago and $1.377 higher than a year ago.
The increase matters beyond drivers of diesel pickups. Contractors, delivery operators, farmers, freight carriers and service businesses can face higher operating costs when trucks and equipment require more expensive fuel. Those costs can also affect supply runs for restaurants and retailers, construction work and mobile service calls.
