Community Initiatives Support Local Nonprofits

The Greater Cabarrus Foundation has launched Support Cabarrus, a program aimed at boosting local nonprofits by offering affordable professional administrative help and capacity building in Cabarrus County. This initiative seeks to strengthen the operational capabilities of community organizations, enabling them to better serve residents.

Grants Awarded to Support Community Programs

The Cabarrus County Community Foundation has awarded $192,750 in grants to 27 local nonprofits. These funds are designated to support various community programs and services, reflecting a strong commitment to enhancing the well-being of Concord’s residents.

Emergency Shelter Opened Amid Winter Storm

In response to winter storm conditions, Cabarrus County Emergency Management opened an emergency shelter at the Concord Active Living Center. This action follows a State of Emergency declaration and aims to provide assistance to residents affected by the severe weather. An information hotline has also been established, and parks were closed on Sunday to ensure community safety.

New Initiative Aims to Address Youth Violence

In response to rising juvenile violence, Cabarrus County mother Ashley Gabriel has founded Phoenix Youth Village, a non-profit initiative aimed at establishing a charter school. This school will focus on providing support and essential life skills to underserved teenagers, addressing the root causes of youth violence through a holistic educational model. Amidst local concerns over violent crime trends, the initiative embodies a proactive approach to fostering mental wellness and social responsibility among the youth.

Winter Weather Advisory in Effect

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Concord and surrounding areas, with mixed precipitation expected. Residents are advised to exercise caution, as roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may become slick and hazardous. The advisory is in effect until 10 AM EST Thursday, February 5, 2026.
