City shifts to monthly council meetings

Conyers leaders are rolling out a new schedule for the mayor and council, moving to a single monthly work session followed by a voting meeting starting this month. The change is meant to give elected officials more time for in-depth discussion while keeping the public meeting calendar easier to follow.

Instead of multiple short meetings scattered through the month, residents can expect one primary council night, with agendas and minutes posted online so people can track decisions from home or before heading to City Hall.

‘Conyers Conversations’ kicks off Monday

The city is also launching a new series of “Conyers Conversations & Listening Sessions” designed to give neighbors more direct time with the mayor and council members. The first session is set for Monday, February 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Cherokee Run Golf Club, with an open format for questions, comments, and ideas from residents.

Officials are encouraging residents to drop in, even if they can only stay a few minutes, and to bring both concerns and suggestions about life in Conyers, from traffic and public safety to parks, small businesses, and events.

Winter weekend events

Today’s calendar includes a Winter Wonder Hike at 1 p.m., part of the city’s seasonal outdoor programming. Families can expect an easy-paced walk, a chance to explore local trails in cooler weather, and a low-cost way to get kids outside before the work and school week gears back up.

Saturday’s schedule featured the Hearts & Hugs evening gathering and regional equestrian competition, continuing the steady stream of events that make the Georgia International Horse Park and surrounding venues a regular draw for visitors and locals.

Looking a little further ahead

City calendars already highlight a busy late-winter and spring, including the upcoming Presidents Day city office closure on February 16 and signature festivals and celebrations returning in the months ahead.

Tourism guides are also pointing to major Conyers traditions like the Cherry Blossom Festival and July’s Red, White & Boom celebration, both expected to bring crowds back into Olde Town and the Horse Park for music, food, and fireworks. It is a good time to start planning if friends or family will be visiting later this year.
