Crash on I-15, Dog Rescue and Downtown Changes Lead Riverside Headlines
Riverside, CA – March 7, 2026 – Serious I-15 crash, major dog rescue, speed limit cuts and downtown market move lead local headlines.
Major Injuries in I-15 Crash
A serious early-morning crash on Interstate 15 is under investigation after at least one person was badly hurt Friday. The collision happened around 2:23 a.m. on southbound I-15 near 5th Street, according to authorities.
Details remain limited, but the crash involved a semi-truck and another vehicle. Traffic was impacted during the morning commute as crews cleared the scene. Investigators are working to determine what led to the collision.
More Than 60 Dogs Rescued from House Fire
In a dramatic rescue near eastern Hemet, Riverside County animal services crews saved more than 60 dogs from a burning home Thursday.
The dogs were taken to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, which is now operating far above capacity. To encourage adoptions, the county has waived adoption fees through March. Officials are urging residents to consider fostering or adopting to ease overcrowding.
Speed Limits Could Drop on 100+ Streets
Riverside’s Transportation Committee has approved a proposal to lower speed limits by five to ten miles per hour on more than 100 city streets.
The recommendation now heads to the full City Council. Supporters say the changes are backed by crash data and are aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities. If approved, new signage and a grace period for drivers would follow.
Downtown Farmers Market Relocates
Shoppers heading to the Downtown Certified Farmers Market this weekend should note a new location. Beginning Saturday, the market moves to Main Street between 10th and 12th streets.
City leaders say the new site offers more space and parking. Some longtime vendors and shoppers have expressed concerns, but officials plan to evaluate the move over the coming months.
City Seeks ‘Most Remarkable Teens’
The City of Riverside is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Most Remarkable Teens program. The annual recognition honors local youth ages 14 to 18 for achievements in academics, athletics, leadership, arts and community service.
Nominations remain open through early April.
