Crystal Daily Briefing
Here is a quick look at what Crystal residents need to know for Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Boil-water advisory impacts Crystal and nearby cities
A valve problem at a Golden Valley water tower led to low water pressure across Golden Valley, New Hope, and Crystal this weekend. The three cities issued a precautionary boil-water advisory for all public water users while crews worked to restore pressure and run testing on the system.
Residents are being asked to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing produce, and cooking until officials give the all-clear. Guidance from the cities is to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least five minutes before consuming it. Pressure has largely been restored, but the advisory remains in effect while the Minnesota Department of Health reviews water quality results.
People may notice changes in water color or pressure as lines recharge. Officials say that is expected and are directing residents to watch city alerts, social media, and local news for the latest updates.
Mayor outlines vision for a more welcoming Town Center
Crystal’s mayor spent time this week talking publicly about the city’s long-term Town Center Vision Plan for the Bass Lake Road and West Broadway corridor. The concept focuses on turning the core shopping area into a more walkable, welcoming downtown with updated zoning to guide redevelopment over the next couple of decades.
The plan looks at the stretch from the Crystal Shopping Center on the west to Bottineau Boulevard on the east. Ideas include adding more sidewalk dining, improving pedestrian connections, and encouraging mixed-use buildings so housing and local businesses can sit closer together. City leaders emphasize that changes will be gradual, but say intentional planning now is key to keeping the area vibrant.
Around City Hall
Crystal’s upcoming public meetings include a Planning Commission session on Monday, February 9, followed by City Council work sessions and a regular council meeting later in the month. Residents interested in redevelopment, public safety, or neighborhood programs can listen in at City Hall or online.
Weather snapshot
Crystal started the day in the low teens with clear skies, on the way to an afternoon high in the mid-20s and a cloudy evening around 21 degrees. Sunday is expected to be milder, with temperatures near freezing and light southeast winds, but untreated surfaces could still be slick overnight.
