Daily Brief: Drones Launch Citywide, Water Repairs Ongoing, I‑94 Work Nears

Dearborn, MI — February 6, 2026 — Drones debut as first responders, crews fix water main breaks, and I‑94 work nears with a public meeting ahead.

Dearborn starts Friday with a mix of public safety upgrades, infrastructure repairs, and transportation news that will affect daily routines across the city.

Police roll out citywide drone response

Dearborn Police have officially launched a citywide Drone as First Responder program, making the city the first in Michigan to deploy drones as a routine part of emergency response. The drones are stationed at multiple locations and can reach most incidents in just a few minutes, sending live video back to officers before patrol units arrive.

City officials say the technology will help improve situational awareness during violent crimes, traffic crashes, missing-person searches, and other urgent calls, while also enhancing officer and public safety.

Water main repairs continue on major roads

Public Works crews are continuing repairs on two water main breaks reported earlier this week. One break is near Telegraph Road and Doxtater Street, while another affects Michigan Avenue between Telegraph and Beech Daly.

Drivers are urged to avoid these areas when possible and expect intermittent lane closures. Residents impacted by service interruptions are advised to follow city guidance once water service is fully restored.

I‑94 project meeting set as prep work begins

Preparatory work for the long-term Restore I‑94 project is scheduled to begin later this month near the Dearborn–Detroit border. The project will eventually rebuild and realign sections of I‑94, with construction expected to continue through 2029.

A public information meeting is scheduled for February 11 in Wayne County to outline traffic shifts, lane closures, and the overall construction timeline. Officials say one to two lanes in each direction will remain open for most of the project.

City meetings and community calendar

Looking ahead, the Dearborn City Council will meet on Tuesday, February 10, with budget items and policy updates expected on the agenda. Several community events are also planned this weekend, including a local scholarship fundraiser and family-friendly performances.

Between new technology, road work, and winter infrastructure challenges, city leaders say staying informed will help residents plan ahead in the days to come.
