Downtown Police Shooting Under Investigation

A heavy police presence in Leavenworth’s Central Business District Thursday afternoon followed an officer-involved shooting near 6th Street and Shawnee. Authorities say officers responded to multiple calls about an armed individual acting erratically in the area.

During the encounter, an officer fired on a man reportedly carrying a rifle and wearing a mask and long coat. The individual was transported for medical treatment. State investigators were requested to take over the case, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings. Portions of the downtown area were temporarily closed while investigators worked the scene.

Heart Health Program at the Library Today

The Leavenworth Public Library is hosting a midday program today focused on heart health and nutrition. The session, part of the library’s adult education series, looks at sodium levels in common foods and practical ways to reduce salt in everyday meals.

The event runs from noon to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. Library staff say the program ties into national Heart Health Month and is designed to be practical and easy to follow.
