Deadly Hit-and-Run, Henderson Power Outage, and New Passport Office Lead Monday’s Headlines
Las Vegas, NV – March 30, 2026 – Police probe a deadly hit-and-run, thousands lose power in Henderson, and North Las Vegas opens a new passport office.
It’s a busy start to the week across the Las Vegas Valley, with developments affecting public safety, utilities, and city services.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Under Investigation
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred late Saturday night near North Rancho Drive and West Washington Avenue.
According to authorities, a pedestrian was struck around 10:38 p.m. while crossing the roadway. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. The vehicle, described as a white Hyundai Sonata, was later located. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
The case remains under investigation by the department’s Collision Investigation Section as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Mylar Balloon Triggers Major Power Outage
In Henderson, more than 8,700 NV Energy customers lost power Saturday night after a mylar balloon caused an outage near Water Street, Lake Mead Parkway, and Boulder Highway.
The disruption began shortly after 8 p.m., affecting homes and a nearby shopping center. Utility crews worked to restore service, and officials reminded residents that metallic balloons can interfere with power lines and electrical equipment.
While power has since been restored, the incident underscores how small hazards can have wide-reaching impacts on infrastructure and local businesses.
North Las Vegas Opens Passport Services Office
On a more forward-looking note, the City of North Las Vegas is expanding public services with the opening of a new one-stop passport office inside City Hall on Las Vegas Boulevard North.
The office officially opens Monday morning and will operate by appointment Monday through Thursday. City leaders say the service is designed to streamline the passport application process for Southern Nevada residents, reducing the need to travel outside the community.
Together, these stories reflect the range of issues shaping daily life in the valley — from traffic safety and infrastructure reliability to expanded civic services.
