Delano Gas and Diesel Prices Show Wide Pump-to-Pump Spread
Late-July Delano station listings show regular gas averaging about $5.47 and diesel $6.66, with large gaps between the lowest and highest listed prices.
Regular gasoline and diesel prices in Delano are showing large differences from one station to another, even as Californiaโs statewide averages continue to rise. Late-July station listings within five miles of Delano showed regular gas averaging about $5.47 per gallon, with listed prices ranging from $5.09 to $6.18.
Those figures are station listings, not an official citywide average, and the entries may not have been updated at the same time. Still, the $1.09 spread between the lowest and highest listed regular-gas prices gives drivers a reason to compare pumps before filling up.
Diesel spread is even wider
Diesel listings showed an average of about $6.66 per gallon, ranging from $5.65 to $7.69. That creates a $2.04 difference between the lowest and highest listed prices.
The gap matters beyond individual motorists. Diesel is a direct operating cost for farm equipment, trucks, delivery fleets, contractors and other commercial vehicles. Higher fuel costs can also add pressure to local hauling, food-service deliveries, repair work and other businesses that depend on regular transportation.
California prices remain above recent comparisons
AAAโs California price check dated July 31 listed the statewide average at $5.651 per gallon for regular gasoline and $6.910 for diesel. Regular gas was up from $5.648 the previous day, $5.595 a week earlier and $5.433 a month earlier. It was also well above the year-earlier average of $4.482.
Diesel followed a similar pattern. The statewide average rose from $6.896 the previous day, $6.808 a week earlier and $6.561 a month earlier. The year-earlier average was $5.179.
AAAโs Bakersfield-area comparison was $5.662 for regular gas and $6.745 for diesel on July 31. That regional data provides context for the southern San Joaquin Valley, but it should not be treated as a substitute for Delano station prices.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration also tracks California gasoline and diesel prices, but its figures are published as a weekly benchmark. That schedule and methodology can produce differences from a daily AAA snapshot or individual station listings.
Compare prices, but verify before driving
For commuters and households, checking several nearby stations could reduce the cost of a fill-up, particularly when prices differ by more than a dollar per gallon. For farm operators, delivery drivers and contractors, the diesel spread can become significant across a large tank or repeated daily trips.
Prices can change quickly, and station listings may age at different rates. Drivers should verify the posted price before making a special trip, since a longer drive can erase some or all of the savings.
