The Sam’s Club figure applies only to that specific station. It should not be treated as an average for all of Des Plaines, where prices can vary by station and can change at different times.

Chicago-area diesel benchmark topped $5.35

AAA’s July 28 Chicago metro diesel benchmark was $5.351 per gallon. The Des Plaines station listing did not provide a current diesel price, so the AAA figure is a regional benchmark rather than a Des Plaines citywide diesel price.

AAA’s Chicago metro regular-gas average was also higher than its prior-day, prior-week and prior-month figures. Regular gas stood at $4.383, compared with $4.302 a week earlier and $4.188 a month earlier. Diesel was $5.351, up from $5.189 a week earlier and $5.215 a month earlier.

The metro figures show broader upward movement in the Chicago-area benchmarks, but they do not establish that every Des Plaines station changed by the same amount. Drivers should compare nearby pumps before filling up.
