Along the Gulf Freeway, law enforcement agencies are launching extra patrols focused on speeding, impaired driving, and road rage through February 15, a reminder for drivers heading toward the island to designate a sober driver and build in extra travel time. Downtown Galveston and Seawall Boulevard are also seeing rolling street closures this weekend, so anyone planning to attend should check routes in advance and be prepared for pedestrian-only zones near the Strand and the seawall.

Library mystery night and February programs

The Dickinson Public Library turned into a crime scene of the fun kind Friday evening with its “Death by Chocolate” murder mystery program for adults, complete with clues, suspects, and light refreshments.
