Eagan voters face Aug. 11 primary for mayor and two council seats

Eagan voters will take part in a municipal primary on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, for one mayoral term and two at-large City Council terms.

The primary is six days away as of Wednesday, Aug. 5. It will narrow the nonpartisan contests for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election; it will not decide the final officeholders.

Offices and candidates

The ballot includes one four-year mayoral term. The filed mayoral candidates are Joseph P. Krueger, Mike Maguire and Mike Supina.

Five candidates are running for two four-year, at-large council terms:

• Scott Armitage
• Paul Bakken
• Ross A. Christensen
• Gary Hansen
• Jason Narverud

The Minnesota Secretary of State’s candidate-filing record lists all eight candidates as nonpartisan and identifies the council race as electing two candidates. The City of Eagan’s filing notice identifies the Aug. 11 municipal primary and the offices at stake.

What the primary determines

Minnesota city offices are nonpartisan. A nonpartisan primary is used when more than twice as many candidates are running as there are candidates to be elected for a particular office. Voters may choose any candidate in a nonpartisan contest, and the candidates receiving the most votes advance to the November general-election ballot.

In Eagan’s mayoral race, the three-candidate field will be narrowed for the November ballot. The five-candidate council field will also be narrowed for the two available seats. The Nov. 3 general election will determine who wins the offices.

Early voting in Eagan

Eagan residents can vote early in person at the Eagan Municipal Center, 3830 Pilot Knob Road. The Minnesota Secretary of State lists the location as open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Eagan city residents.

For voting on Aug. 11, the city’s filing notice lists Election Day voting hours as 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
