New turf field debuts for local students

A long-awaited upgrade to the Los Robles–Ronald McNair sports field is now open, giving East Palo Alto youth their first full-size, pro-style turf field close to home.

This week, students, city leaders, and visiting NFL athletes gathered to celebrate the refurbished field, which sits near the Boys and Girls Club and local schools. The new surface replaces a worn grass field that students described as patchy and uneven, and is lined for football while also supporting soccer and other activities.

The project is part of a broader effort tied to major events coming to the Bay Area, including the Super Bowl and future World Cup matches. Local officials say the investment is about more than sports, framing the field as a safe, high-quality space for kids and families and a point of pride for a community that has historically had fewer recreational amenities.

Lunar New Year market at Bloomhouse EPA

Later today, neighbors are invited to a Lunar New Year Market at Bloomhouse EPA, 2555 Pulgas Avenue, from noon to 4 p.m. Organizers are promising more than 30 small-business vendors, live performances, photo spots, and family-friendly activities.

The event is free to attend and open to all ages, including leashed dogs. Parking is available but limited, so carpooling or arriving early is encouraged. Guests are also asked to bring nonperishable items for a food drive benefiting local families, with donation bins set up near the entrance.

Dumpling Bowl postponed on city calendar

Residents checking the city’s online calendar will notice that the planned Dumpling Bowl event listed for today is marked as cancelled or postponed. No new date has been posted yet, but the notice is a reminder to double-check event listings before heading out.

The same calendar highlights upcoming public meetings later in the month, including the Public Works and Transportation Commission on February 18. City staff continue to use the calendar to post commission meetings, recruitment notices, and community events.
