Eau Claire Gas Nears $3.91 as Diesel Tops $5.09

Regular gasoline prices in the Eau Claire metro were slightly lower than a week earlier on July 31, while diesel moved higher and remained above $5 per gallon in the latest AAA price check.

AAA listed the Eau Claire metro average at $3.909 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.096 per gallon for diesel. Those are metro averages, not guaranteed prices at every station in Eau Claire, so individual pumps may be higher or lower.

Regular gas is lower than last week

Regular gasoline was down 1.2 cents from the previous week, according to AAA’s comparison data. It was also 1.0 cent higher than the previous day, showing a small daily increase even as the weekly trend remained slightly lower.

The Eau Claire metro average was 30.6 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.007 higher than a year earlier. For drivers filling a typical 15-gallon vehicle, that year-over-year difference represents roughly $15 more for a full tank before accounting for station-to-station price differences.

Diesel remains above $5 after a weekly increase

Diesel averaged $5.096 per gallon on July 31. The price was down 1 cent from the previous day but up 12.2 cents from a week earlier. Diesel was also 35.2 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.551 above the same comparison from a year earlier.

That separate movement matters because diesel costs can affect more than personal vehicle trips. Contractors, delivery operators, farmers, restaurants that depend on freight, service companies and other businesses may face higher transportation or operating costs even as regular gasoline remains close to last week’s level.

What the prices mean for local drivers and businesses

For commuters and households, the current numbers point to little short-term change at gasoline pumps compared with last week, but substantially higher costs than in June or July 2025. Drivers planning weekend travel may want to compare several stations rather than assume the metro average matches the price at a nearby pump.

For businesses that use diesel-powered vehicles or equipment, the weekly increase may be more noticeable than the small daily decline. Higher fuel costs do not automatically mean local prices for goods or services will change, but fuel-intensive operators have more exposure when diesel stays above the $5 threshold.
