Elkin City Schools seeks public input before Aug. 3 deadline

Elkin City Schools is asking students, parents, staff, community members and local organizations to help inform its search for a permanent superintendent. Public input is due by Monday, Aug. 3, 2026.

The district hired the North Carolina School Boards Association to facilitate the search and gather feedback on the leadership qualities, experience and skills community members want in the next superintendent.

How Elkin residents can participate

Students, parents and other community members can complete an online survey through the district’s official superintendent-search hub. The district has posted survey options in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Elkin City Schools employees have access to a separate staff survey through the school system’s email communications.

Local groups and organizations may also submit written statements describing the leadership qualities they consider important in the next superintendent. Those statements must be received by the North Carolina School Boards Association no later than Aug. 3.

The district’s search page provides the survey links and submission information for this public-input phase.

What happens next

The North Carolina School Boards Association is scheduled to compile, summarize and present the feedback at a specially called Elkin City Schools Board of Education meeting on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.

That meeting is scheduled for the presentation of compiled community feedback; it is not an announcement of a permanent superintendent. The district’s hiring decision remains pending.

Jennifer Hall is serving as interim superintendent while the search continues. Steve Hall, the district’s former superintendent, left to become superintendent of Surry County Schools.

For Elkin families, employees and community organizations, the immediate opportunity is to submit feedback before the Aug. 3 deadline. The board’s scheduled Aug. 7 review will be the next public step in the search, while the appointment of a permanent superintendent remains pending.
