Ellenville considers up to $1.5 million grant to replace Westwood Avenue water tank
The Village of Ellenville is pursuing a possible state grant of up to $1.5 million to replace the Westwood Avenue water storage tank, a facility that serves the village’s municipal water system.
Ellenville held a public hearing on May 26, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. at the Ellenville Government Center, 2 Elting Court. The hearing concerned possible 2026 Community Development Block Grant applications, including a public-infrastructure application for the tank replacement.
Grant application remains a proposal
The proposed application would seek no more than $1.5 million through the Community Development Block Grant program administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal. The hearing was a step toward seeking the funding, not a final grant award.
Replacing the tank would involve a major piece of Ellenville’s water-storage infrastructure. The tank serves the Village of Ellenville, so any future design, procurement and construction work would be connected to the operation of the municipal water system.
The village later sought engineering firms for services tied to the potential replacement. The procurement covered design, oversight and engineering support after funding, and was contingent on approval of up to $1.5 million in state CDBG funding.
Separate state financing listing
A draft 2026 Clean Water State Revolving Fund intended-use plan from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation lists the Village of Ellenville as an applicant for a water project. That listing shows a total project cost and intended-use-plan amount of $6,185,000.
The $6.185 million figure appears in the draft revolving-fund plan, while the Westwood Avenue tank proposal discussed at the public hearing sought up to $1.5 million through the CDBG program. The two figures represent separate entries in the public financing documents and should not be treated as the same grant amount.
Next steps
The village’s engineering request indicates that design and related support would proceed if the grant application receives approval. A grant award, final design, contractor and construction start date have not been announced.
For residents and utility operators, the immediate development is the village’s effort to position the tank replacement for outside funding and engineering work. The proposal remains subject to the state funding decision, and no completed water-system upgrade or construction project has been announced.
