Restaurant Week fills local tables
Elmwood Park's annual Dine-In Elmwood Park Restaurant Week is underway, running from February 6 through February 15 and featuring special menus and pricing at participating neighborhood restaurants along North Avenue and around Conti Parkway.
The promotion is designed to keep dining dollars in the village during the winter stretch, giving residents a chance to revisit longtime favorites and try newer spots without leaving town. Many eateries are encouraging reservations for weekend evenings as interest picks up.
Crime Free Housing class scheduled for tonight
The village is hosting a Crime Free Housing class this evening, February 7, from 6 to 7 p.m., part of an ongoing effort to educate rental property owners and residents about recent updates to local rental and nuisance property ordinances.
The program walks through key rules for rental licensing, explains how chronic nuisance designations work, and offers direct contact information for the Code Administration Department and the Crime Free Housing administrator so participants know where to turn with questions after the session.
District 401 board plans Monday special meeting
Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401 has called a special school board meeting for Monday, February 9, at 5 p.m. in Room 193 at Elmwood Park High School.
The session is open to the public under state open meetings rules, with time set aside for public comment. Residents who wish to address the board are asked to sign in before the meeting begins and keep remarks brief so more people can be heard.
Looking ahead: local events on the calendar
Later this month, the village recreation center will host a Fight Night boxing card on Friday, February 20, at 7 p.m., presented in partnership with a local boxing promotion. Limited seating means residents who want a close-up view of the bouts are encouraged to arrive early.
The village's online news feed also highlights a recent state grant to upgrade Kiddie Korral Park and continuing efforts to secure federal funding for the Grand Avenue underpass and other rail safety improvements, signaling another busy year for local infrastructure work.
Library access update
A local newsletter reports that the Elmwood Park Public Library board has revised its meeting room policy so residents and resident-led groups no longer pay a rental fee, instead leaving a refundable deposit when they book space, a change that followed months of public debate over room access and costs.
