Enon Storm Damage Downed Trees, Damaged Homes and Power Lines on July 17

A fast-moving storm caused localized damage in the Village of Enon on Friday, July 17, affecting trees, homes, vehicles and power infrastructure in a concentrated part of the community.

The National Weather Service local storm report recorded thunderstorm-wind damage in Enon at approximately 4:05 p.m. The preliminary report said trees and large branches were snapped, with the time estimated from radar.

Damage was reported near two Enon areas

WHIO’s report described damage concentrated within about a mile, with residents and crews reporting impacts along Pleasant Street and North Xenia Road.

On Pleasant Street, a resident told WHIO that parts of a tree landed on her car, house and a power line. The report said the car’s back windows were smashed and shingles were damaged.

Another Enon resident reported seeing crews cutting up a downed tree on a power line along North Xenia Road. The tree had snapped and torn shingles from a nearby home.

WHIO also reported that the storm pushed power poles down in the village. Residents described strong horizontal winds, falling branches and vehicles swerving on Main Street as the storm moved through.

Downed trees and lines remain safety hazards

Downed trees, broken limbs and damaged utility infrastructure can create hazards for residents, drivers, pedestrians and nearby property owners after severe weather. People should avoid approaching downed power lines or trees touching utility equipment and should call 911 for immediate emergencies.
