FDOT Roadwork Begins on Reid Street and Crill Avenue in Palatka
Construction is underway on two major Palatka corridors, with different work schedules and access changes expected to affect drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, nearby businesses and daily commuters through fall 2027.
The Florida Department of Transportation project covers Reid Street, also identified as State Road 15 and U.S. 17, from the Memorial Bridge to State Road 19, and Crill Avenue, or State Road 20, from east of Osceola Street to south of Carr Street. FDOT identifies Palatka in Putnam County as the project location.
Where work is occurring
On Reid Street, the project includes roadway improvements between the Memorial Bridge and State Road 19. On Crill Avenue, crews are working on access changes and related roadway improvements between east of Osceola Street and south of Carr Street.
FDOT’s project record says work began June 1, 2026 and lists summer 2026 as the project start period. The City of Palatka issued a construction update dated July 13, 2026. The records use different descriptions of the start timing, but together confirm that the project is underway.
What drivers should expect
FDOT says Reid Street work will typically occur at night, while Crill Avenue work will generally occur during the day. Traffic is expected to remain maintained under FDOT design standards throughout construction.
No lane closures are allowed on Reid Street south of State Road 100 between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Motorists should still expect changing work-zone conditions, temporary traffic controls and possible delays as crews move through the two corridors.
How access may change
City and FDOT project materials describe planned permanent access changes on State Road 20. Those materials state that access from Crill Avenue and Morris Street onto State Road 20 will be eliminated. Drivers should watch for posted detours and changing connections rather than assume that familiar turns will remain available.
Project materials also describe a raised median on Reid Street between the Memorial Bridge and Second Street, a directional opening for eastbound drivers to reach North First Street, and removal of on-street parking between Second Street and Madison Street to make room for future bike lanes.
These changes may affect turning movements, parking availability and how customers, employees and deliveries reach nearby properties. Pedestrian and bicycle travel may also be affected as work areas shift. The project includes sidewalks or bicycle-path work, but current records do not establish that every design detail from earlier public-meeting materials has already been built.
Project work, contractor and cost
FDOT lists milling and resurfacing, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, traffic signals, highway signing, sidewalks or bicycle-path work, concrete pavement rehabilitation and related construction.
Halifax Paving Inc. submitted the winning bid for the FDOT contract. The bid tabulation lists the winning bid at $6,270,148.10, while FDOT summarizes the project cost as $6.3 million. The contract provides 350 available days, and FDOT expects completion in fall 2027.
For Palatka residents, commuters and businesses, the practical message is that both corridors will remain in use while the work advances. Drivers should allow extra travel time, watch for changing signs and traffic controls, and avoid assuming that familiar turns, parking areas or business approaches will remain available throughout construction.
