Fort Pierce Port Master Plan Update Heads to County Briefing Aug. 11

St. Lucie County commissioners are scheduled to receive an update Aug. 11 on the draft 2026 Port of Fort Pierce Master Plan update, giving the board an opportunity to review stakeholder comments and question staff before the planning document moves to its next stage.

The briefing matters to waterfront residents, port-area businesses, workers and taxpayers because it may clarify the county’s priorities and review process for the working waterfront. It is not a vote to adopt the plan or approve specific construction, spending or implementation dates.

What commissioners will hear

The St. Lucie County Port, Inlet, and Beaches Department is scheduled to present the status of the draft master plan update during a regularly scheduled informal meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

According to the county, the presentation will provide information about the draft plan’s content as presented June 1, outline comments recently received from stakeholders and give commissioners an opportunity to ask staff questions and provide feedback.

The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the St. Lucie County Commissioner Chambers at 2300 Virginia Ave., on the third floor of the Roger Poitras building in Fort Pierce.

How the update reached the briefing stage

St. Lucie County held a public-input meeting June 1 at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club, 700 N. Indian River Drive. The city of Fort Pierce‘s public notice said residents and businesses could review the draft update and submit feedback through an online survey.

The 2026 update builds on the adopted 2020 Port of Fort Pierce Master Plan. The city notice describes the update as a supplementary planning document tied to the port’s long-standing working-waterfront vision.

What the briefing does — and does not — decide

The Aug. 11 meeting is a review and feedback step. The county’s notice does not say that commissioners will adopt the draft update, select final projects, authorize funding or approve a construction schedule.

Comments received through the June public-input process should not be treated as unanimous support or opposition. The county briefing is intended to help commissioners understand the draft and stakeholder feedback; any later formal action would need to be identified through subsequent county agendas, public meetings or a revised plan.
