Framingham Winter Street project remains in Phase 1 for three more weeks
Framingham’s Winter Street project remains in Phase 1 for about three more weeks, with southbound traffic allowed through the work zone and northbound drivers detoured.
Framingham’s Winter Street Roadway Improvement Project will remain in its current Phase 1 traffic pattern for approximately three more weeks, according to a July 19 update from the city’s Department of Public Works.
The arrangement keeps southbound traffic moving through the active construction zone. Northbound drivers must continue using the posted detour. The city has not announced a firm start date for the next phase and said additional traffic changes will be announced before future phase changes.
What drivers and pedestrians should expect
Construction is taking place on Winter Street between Ransom Road and Dr. Harvey Cushing Way. Current work includes granite curbing, sidewalk installation, and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
Regular construction hours are generally 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Southbound motorists should expect construction activity and possible delays while passing through the work area. Northbound travelers should follow posted detour signs rather than attempting to continue through the restricted direction.
Pedestrians should expect continuing work around sidewalks, curbs, and curb ramps within the project limits. Nearby residents and businesses may see equipment and workers during the scheduled weekday hours, although the city’s notices do not provide a specific estimate for travel delays or business impacts.
Saturday work was confirmed
A separate city notice issued July 23 confirmed construction for Saturday, July 25. That notice kept the same Phase 1 traffic pattern in place and did not announce a new phase or a different detour arrangement.
The Saturday work was separate from the project’s regular Monday-through-Friday schedule. Construction timing remains subject to weather and may change.
Project context
The broader Winter Street roadway improvement project was announced as a roughly three- to four-month effort. Planned work includes roadway improvements, curbing, sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, and paving.
For now, the practical impact for people using Winter Street is that the Phase 1 traffic pattern will continue. Northbound drivers should plan around the posted detour, while southbound drivers should allow extra time through the work zone.
The city said it will provide additional notice before the project moves into a later traffic phase. Until then, the current traffic pattern remains in effect, with the schedule subject to weather and construction conditions.
