Freehold Public Library reopens on reduced hours after April 30 shooting

The Freehold Public Library is open again after the April 30 shooting that forced the building to close, but it is not back to normal operations. The library says its temporary schedule began June 8, so anyone planning a visit should check the hours before heading downtown.

Temporary hours are still limited

According to the library’s official site, the building is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed Saturdays and Sundays under the temporary arrangement.

That matters for people who rely on the library as part of a school day, workday or quick errand run. Students looking for a quiet place to study, parents stopping in with children and downtown visitors who build the library into their route all have less room for last-minute trips while the schedule remains limited.

Why the change matters now

The reopening follows the late-April shooting inside the library and the shutdown that followed. Patch reported that the library would be closed until further notice after the incident, and CBS New York reported the case was part of the public-safety response in Freehold Borough.

The current schedule is temporary, not permanent. The library’s site says it runs through June 19, when the building will be closed for Juneteenth. That means residents should not assume a normal routine yet, even though the doors are open again.
