Gainesville’s Utility Rates and Community Events Update

Gainesville, FL — January 30, 2026 — GRU announces a 5-mill fuel adjustment increase; community celebrates Alachua County’s 200th anniversary.

GRU Announces 5-Mill Fuel Adjustment Increase

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) has announced a 5-mill increase in its fuel adjustment cost for February, following a similar rise in January. This adjustment is due to higher natural gas prices, which have surged because of increased demand for heating during the cold winter months. As a result, GRU customers will see an additional $5 on their monthly bills for every 1,000 kilowatt-hours used. To help mitigate these costs, GRU recommends setting thermostats to 68°F and ensuring homes are properly weather-stripped to conserve energy.
