Garden City changes administrative-center and drive-through hours
Garden City changed the operating hours for its City Administrative Center and drive-through beginning Monday, Aug. 3, 2026. The new schedule changes when residents and businesses can visit City Hall, pay bills, seek permits, access utility services or request code-compliance assistance.
The City Administrative Center is at 301 N. 8th Street, Garden City, KS 67846. Neighborhood & Development Services is located inside the facility and remains open through the lunch hour.
New administrative-center hours
The administrative center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Thursday hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Friday, the center is open from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Friday schedule means the administrative center will not offer an afternoon service window under the hours announced by the city. People who previously relied on Friday afternoon access may need to plan visits earlier in the week or before Friday’s 11:30 a.m. closing.
Drive-through schedule
The drive-through opens earlier than the administrative center on weekdays. Its hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
That gives residents and businesses a longer service window than the building itself on Monday through Wednesday, but the drive-through also ends at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Anyone using that service should account for the separate schedule rather than assume the center and drive-through close at the same time.
Why the city changed the hours
The city said the change is intended to align staffing resources and standardize hours among departments housed in the building. The notice does not characterize the change as a reduction in total staffing, and it does not establish identical hours for every city department.
Keeping Neighborhood & Development Services open during lunch preserves access to that department during the midday period. The arrangement may matter to residents seeking permits or code-compliance help who cannot visit during a traditional lunch closure.
The city notice does not say whether the new schedule is permanent or subject to later revision. It also does not announce a review date or a later deadline. For now, the Aug. 3 schedule is the city’s announced operating timetable for the administrative center and drive-through.
