Snow is moving through the region today, and Gardner is under both a parking ban and cold-weather alerts as the city heads into the rest of the weekend.

Snowstorm prompts citywide parking rules

A city parking ban that began Friday night remains in effect through 5 p.m. today, covering on-street spaces and certain municipal lots. The move is meant to keep roads clear for plows and emergency vehicles while several inches of snow and gusty winds pass through North Central Massachusetts.

Drivers are urged to move vehicles into driveways or approved off-street locations and to watch for posted signs in city-owned lots. Residents who need to travel are being reminded to leave extra time and give plows plenty of room to work.

Cold and snow advisories for the Gardner area

Regional forecasters continue to highlight slippery travel, blowing snow, and periods of low visibility across Worcester County today. A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Massachusetts, and an extreme cold warning covers parts of the broader region, with wind chills expected to drop well below zero tonight into Sunday.

Local officials are urging people to limit time outdoors, check on neighbors who may need help, and bring pets inside. Extra layers, hats, and face coverings are recommended if you must be out, especially during the overnight hours.

Busy week ahead at City Hall

Looking beyond the storm, Gardner’s public meetings calendar picks up again early next week. The School Committee is scheduled to meet Monday evening in the City Council chamber, followed by a series of financial, planning, and economic development meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Later in the month, additional board and committee sessions are planned, along with community events and cultural programs. Residents can follow agendas, attend in person, or watch meeting recordings to stay on top of decisions affecting schools, development, and city spending.
