Grain Valley moves toward $4.6 million water-tower upgrade and new water mains
Grain Valley is moving toward a $4.6 million Water Tower Upgrade, with the city’s capital plan allocating $4.2 million for the project in 2026.
The plan lists $400,000 for the project in 2025 and gives the Water Tower Upgrade a total cost of $4.6 million. The project is part of the city’s 2022-2026 Capital Improvements Plan and concerns Grain Valley’s water system.
Underground work is expected first
City meeting coverage in June said the project was expected to begin with underground infrastructure. New water mains and valves were planned for installation in mid-to-late July 2026.
The schedule then called for tower footing and erection during the fall and winter. Completion was expected the following year, in 2027.
That timeline describes planned construction stages rather than a completed project. The public update does not establish whether the underground work began on schedule. It also does not identify a contractor or construction contract award.
Separate water-line project listed
The capital plan separately lists a Buckner Tarsney Water Line Extension with a total cost of $317,000. The line extension is identified as a separate project, so its listed amount is not included in the $4.6 million Water Tower Upgrade total.
The water-tower work may affect construction activity while the mains, valves and tower components are installed. Over the longer term, the project concerns utility reliability and water-system capacity as Grain Valley grows. The available project descriptions do not provide a capacity figure or identify a specific change to the area served.
The city has also posted notice of a Grain Valley Board of Aldermen meeting scheduled for Aug. 10, 2026. The notice establishes the meeting date but does not establish that the board took a new action on the water project.
For residents, businesses and other water customers, the next listed milestones are the expected mid-to-late July start for underground work, tower footing and erection in fall and winter, and anticipated completion in 2027. The schedule remains an expected sequence of work rather than confirmation that each milestone has occurred.
