It’s a relatively quiet Saturday in Grandview, but there are a few important updates on public safety, local schools, and long-term city upgrades.

Police secure new training grant

The Grandview Police Department has been awarded a $50,000 state grant through Missouri’s Blue Shield program to boost officer training and support pay incentives for recruits.

The funding will pay for an advanced training simulator that lets officers practice de-escalation and other scenarios in a realistic, controlled setting.

City leaders have also backed higher starting salaries for experienced, POST-certified officers and expanded support for new hires going through the police academy, all aimed at improving staffing and keeping response times strong.

Schools look ahead to a busy February

The Grandview C-4 School District is easing into February with a slate of professional development days, small-group sessions, and student events at Grandview High School.

On Monday, February 9, staff and students will see multiple NIC sessions on campus, followed by a cross-district professional development setup on Friday, February 13 and a full cross-district training day on Tuesday, February 17.

Toward the end of the month, Grandview will host the PrepKC Math Relay on Saturday, February 28, bringing students together for a day focused on problem-solving and academic competition.

Bond projects and street work reshape the city

Many of the changes residents see around town trace back to the $21 million no-tax-increase bond package voters approved in 2022 for city facilities, streets, and fire stations.

The bond program has already delivered a modernized City Hall and police headquarters, along with a new DMV location on Main Street designed to make basic services faster and more accessible.

School facilities are also benefiting from a separate bond effort, with recent upgrades to Grandview High School’s arts, athletic, and common spaces intended to support students well into the next decade.

On the transportation side, previous and ongoing work on key corridors such as Blue Ridge Boulevard and the I-49 outer roads continues to improve traffic flow, safety, and access to local businesses.
