Police investigating cityโs first homicide of the year
Greenville police are asking for the publicโs help as they investigate the cityโs first homicide of 2026. Officers were called around 3:49 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, to the 1900 block of Loweโs Road, where they found 21-year-old Tony Parker Jr. lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Parker, a Greenville resident, was later pronounced dead. Investigators say his 2022 Toyota Camry was also stolen; it was found abandoned the next day in the area of Causey Drive and Baskin Drive. The case remains active, and police are working with federal partners to process evidence.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Greenville Police or Crime Stoppers at (662) 378-TIPS, where tips leading to an arrest could earn a reward of up to $2,000.

Tax-forfeited land sales generate $95K for local governments
City and county leaders got a financial boost this week as Mississippiโs secretary of state visited Greenville to present a check worth $95,000. The money comes from the sale of 259 tax-forfeited properties that were auctioned online last July.

Mayor Errick Simmons and Washington County Board of Supervisors President Carl McGee accepted the funds during a brief ceremony at City Hall. Local officials say bringing long-vacant parcels back into private hands not only cleans up blighted spots but also returns those properties to the tax rolls, supporting future services and revitalization efforts.

Runners and revelers expected downtown today
If you are out and about this weekend, expect extra visitors in town. The Greenville and Washington County tourism calendar lists the 14th Annual Mississippi River Marathon for today, along with a Pre Valentineโs Extravaganza to cap off the evening.
