City of Gresham Names Jeffrey Hairston as Next Fire Chief

The City of Gresham has appointed Assistant Chief Jeffrey Hairston as the new Fire Chief, effective December 13, 2025. Hairston, a top finalist in the city’s recent national recruitment for Fire Chief, received strong evaluations throughout the interview process in 2024. Gresham Eyes ‘Friendship’ with Chernivtsi, Ukraine

During a Council meeting on January 20, 2026, a unanimous vote passed a resolution to move forward with naming Chernivtsi, Ukraine, as a “Friendship City” with Gresham. This designation would make Chernivtsi Gresham’s fourth international friendship city, joining Ebetsu, Japan; Sokcho, South Korea; and Owerri, Nigeria. The friendship city designation focuses on fostering cultural and community connections, differing from the traditional sister city model, which is often facilitated by third parties and based on similar qualities or population.
