Heat Advisory, Women’s Day Rally and Budget Talks Top San Diego Headlines
San Diego, CA – March 11, 2026 – Record heat warnings, Women’s Day rallies, and City Council budget talks lead local headlines across the county.
Record Heat and Fire Risk This Week
San Diego County is bracing for a surge of unseasonably hot weather, with forecasters warning that temperatures could climb 20 to 25 degrees above normal by Thursday and Friday. Inland areas may approach triple digits, while even coastal neighborhoods are expected to see highs well into the 80s and low 90s.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory beginning Thursday morning and lasting through Friday night. Along with the heat comes elevated fire danger, especially as dry conditions and gusty winds continue to impact parts of the region.
Officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and check on vulnerable neighbors.
International Women’s Day Draws Crowds Downtown
Hundreds gathered along the Embarcadero and at Waterfront Park on Sunday to mark International Women’s Day. The event blended celebration and activism, with participants calling attention to gender equity, workplace rights and broader social justice issues.
Families, community leaders and advocacy groups took part in rallies and speeches throughout downtown San Diego. Organizers said the strong turnout reflected ongoing community engagement around women’s rights and representation.
City Council Opens Budget Discussions
At City Hall, the San Diego City Council held a special evening session Tuesday focused on public input for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. Residents were invited to share priorities ranging from infrastructure repairs to public safety and neighborhood services.
Councilmembers also recognized local leaders during the 2026 Women of Distinction ceremony, honoring women who have made significant contributions across the city.
Budget deliberations will continue in the coming weeks as the city works toward a final spending plan.
