Hibbing residents: 95-gallon containers begin July 20 (rate up)
Hibbing’s 65-gallon carts get replaced with dark-blue 95-gallon containers
Hibbing Sanitation crews will begin replacing residential garbage carts across the community from July 20 through July 31, 2026. The new containers are standardized dark-blue 95-gallon units displaying the City of Hibbing logo. The city says all 65-gallon containers will be collected and eliminated from service.
The City of Hibbing’s notice says the change is aimed at improving service, streamlining operations, and standardizing waste-collection equipment citywide.
What residents need to do during the swap window
During the July 20–31 replacement period, residents should follow one rule: set out your current (existing) container on your household’s normal collection day.
- Place your current garbage container out on your normal collection day.
- Leave the container accessible for City crews.
- After your garbage is collected, crews will remove your old container and replace it with a new dark-blue 95-gallon container.
The city also says it will replace residential containers that don’t display the City of Hibbing logo. Once the replacement program is complete, only the new City-issued dark-blue containers will be serviced.
Monthly billing changes to 95-gallon service
If you currently use a 65-gallon container, your monthly garbage billing will transition to the 95-gallon rate. The city says the monthly rate for 95-gallon service is $16.25, reflecting an increase of $2.20 compared with the fee for 65-gallon service.
Need an extra container?
If you currently pay for an extra container or would like one, the city says to call 218-969-0353 to arrange delivery.
Residents with questions about the container replacement program may contact the City of Hibbing Sanitation Department at 218-403-5732 or 218-403-5733.
Quick reminder: bulk waste and construction debris aren’t the same as regular cart pickup
Hibbing also has a separate process for construction debris and bulk waste. The city says it will deliver a bulk refuse container to your residence or commercial site for disposal of construction debris and bulk waste.
The bulk program uses three to six cubic yard containers. Once placed, the containers cannot be moved, and they are delivered in the afternoon on Monday through Friday.
For pricing, the city lists $34.08 per cubic yard (for residents), with a minimum charge of 3 cubic yards (and a deposit that goes toward the first 3 cubic yards). The city also notes a $5 per day (plus tax) rental fee for container use beyond five business days.
Important: the bulk container rules say appliances are not accepted in the bulk container. Appliances require a separate disposal-sticker process, with the city listing $15 per tag (including tax) for appliance disposal.
So if you’re tackling spring/summer cleanups, double-check which disposal method you need—bulk-debris rules won’t necessarily match regular weekly cart pickup.
