Schools steady after weather delays

Hopewell City Public Schools spent much of the week reshuffling plans around slick roads and freezing rain. Schools were closed on Wednesday, February 4, and reopened on a two-hour delay Thursday, February 5, as transportation crews and staff worked to make routes safe. Families are also being reminded that registration is open for the 2026–2027 year at Woodlawn Learning Center, which serves four-year-olds in the city. Spring intersession sign-ups remain available for students who want extra enrichment or support later this month.

City services and cold-weather resources

City operations have seen a few adjustments as well. The Hopewell DMV Select counter at City Hall was closed on Friday, February 6, so residents who rely on in-person transactions will need to plan for a visit next week instead. Looking a bit further out, city offices will close on Monday, February 16, in observance of Presidents Day. With low temperatures lingering, the city continues to promote its warming shelter operated by The Hope Center, along with utility assistance programs that can help qualifying households manage winter electric bills.

Meetings to watch next week

Next week brings several chances for residents to weigh in on local decisions. The Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority board is slated to meet Monday, February 9, followed by the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 10. The School Board is scheduled to gather on Thursday, February 12, with budget season and ongoing academic recovery efforts likely to shape the agenda. Later in the month, the Keep Hopewell Beautiful committee meets on Tuesday, February 24, continuing neighborhood clean-up and beautification work across the city.
