Northside power outage explained

The city has shared more detail about the early-morning power outage that hit the northeast side on Tuesday, February 3. A breaker at Hudson Public Power’s Eastside substation opened at 4:13 a.m., cutting service to part of the north side.

Crews were dispatched immediately, rerouting power and restoring service by 5:40 a.m., so most affected customers were without electricity for about an hour and a half. The city notes that heavy snow, ice, and possible road deicing material near the Ohio Turnpike likely contributed to the problem. Maintenance crews and a contractor are now cleaning and testing equipment at the substation to reduce the chances of a repeat outage.

Ward 2 open forum set for February 16

Residents in Ward 2 will have a chance to talk directly with their council representative later this month. Councilman Dan White has rescheduled his open forum for Monday, February 16, at the Hudson Library & Historical Society from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The session is designed as an informal meet-and-greet, giving neighbors time to raise questions, share concerns, and hear updates on current city projects. Even if you do not have a specific issue in mind, it is a good opportunity to learn how decisions are made at City Hall.

Valentine’s Cookie Pop-Up brightens the week

On Tuesday, February 10, a neighborhood baker is hosting a Valentine’s Cookie Pop-Up at 2211 Jesse Drive starting at 8:30 a.m. The event features individually wrapped cookies, mini sets, themed “pencil” cookies for teachers, and boxed gift assortments aimed at kids, coworkers, and local school staff.

Prices range from roughly the cost of a specialty coffee to a modest gift box, and all items are sealed to stay fresh through the holiday. It is a small but sweet way to support a homegrown business and pick up last-minute treats close to home.

The city calendar lists a special meeting at Town Hall today for executive-session interviews with board and commission candidates. While the interviews themselves are not public, residents can watch for future openings and consider applying to serve; citizen boards remain one of the main ways residents can directly shape policy in Hudson.
