Hummelstown’s Poplar-and-Water stormwater work briefly cut water service
Hummelstown residents near Poplar Avenue and Water Street saw a temporary water service disruption tied to stormwater work on Wednesday, June 24.
Hummelstown Borough said a stormwater infrastructure project near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Water Street caused a temporary water service disruption for some residents in the nearby area on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
In a notice posted that day, the borough said the disruption was due to ongoing work associated with the stormwater project at the intersection, and that work would continue the next day. The borough also said that no additional water service disruptions were anticipated at the time of the notice.
Why the borough says crews were working
The borough’s stormwater program information describes how Hummelstown operates its MS4 storm sewer system under the federal Phase II stormwater framework, including permit-related protocols and best management practices designed to reduce pollutant discharges.
Within that ongoing program, stormwater improvements can require construction and utility-related work along streets and drainage areas—conditions that can overlap with short-term water service interruptions.
Tree removal (and replanting)
The June 24 notice also said the project includes removing several trees to accommodate stormwater infrastructure improvements. The borough added that new trees will be planted once the project is complete to help restore and enhance the area.
What residents should do next
- Keep an eye out for borough updates if crews continue working in the Poplar Avenue/Water Street area.
- If you live nearby, plan for the possibility of short, construction-related impacts while work continues the next day.
