Katy Daily Briefing: Substation, Virtual High School, New Cafe

Katy, TX — February 7, 2026 — City adds west-side police/EMS substation, Katy ISD expands with virtual high school, and a new coffee spot is coming.

Katy Daily Briefing

Good morning, Katy. Here’s a quick look at what’s new around town for Saturday, February 7, 2026, from public safety to schools and local business.

Public safety: police and EMS substation on the way

The City of Katy has purchased just over 1.3 acres in the Texas Heritage Marketplace development, at Texas Heritage Parkway and I-10, to build a combined police and emergency medical services substation. Council approved the $227,000 land deal in late January.

The substation is planned to house police officers, EMS crews and an ambulance under one roof, aimed at cutting response times on the fast-growing west side of the city. Existing response times are considered acceptable today, but officials say the new outpost should give first responders a faster launch point as more homes, shops and traffic arrive.

Schools: virtual high school enrollment now open

Katy ISD is moving ahead with Legacy Virtual High School, a new online campus that opened statewide enrollment on February 2. The program will start in fall 2026 with grades 9 through 11 and add 12th grade the following year.

Eligible Texas students can attend full time tuition-free, while others may opt into individual online courses to supplement their current campus schedule. District leaders say the goal is to offer the same rigorous curriculum Katy families expect, but in a flexible format that can better serve students with medical needs, busy activity schedules or a preference for virtual learning.

Business: new coffee spot coming to Meadows Marketplace

A new La La Land cafe is slated for Meadows Marketplace on South Fry Road, in the space currently occupied by a juice bar. Renovation work is expected to begin in March and wrap up by early summer, with plans for a bright, welcoming shop that serves craft lattes, teas and a menu of sweet and savory toasts.

The concept is known for its bold yellow branding and a focus on creating an upbeat gathering place. For nearby neighborhoods, it will add another option for a morning coffee run or an afternoon study spot.

Weekend events and things to do

Today’s local calendar includes a Katy ISD operations job fair this morning, the grand re-opening of Slick City Action Park with new slides and upgraded go-karts, and a middle school art reception tied to the Bayou City Art Festival. On Sunday, the LaCenterra farmers market returns with food vendors and family-friendly browsing.

For families looking for evening entertainment, Cirque Italia’s touring water circus is set up at Katy Mills with performances through the weekend, offering acrobatics and light effects under the big top.
