Kokomo Gas Eases to $3.633 as Diesel Rises to $5.381

Kokomo-area drivers are seeing different short-term movements at the pump: regular gasoline eased while diesel edged higher. AAA’s latest Kokomo metro price check, priced August 1, lists regular gasoline at $3.633 per gallon and diesel at $5.381.

Regular gas fell 2.9 cents from the previous AAA check. Diesel rose 0.7 cents over the same period. The separate movements matter because gasoline is the more common household expense, while diesel costs affect freight, construction, farming, service fleets and other businesses that move goods or operate heavy equipment.

Gasoline remains higher than a week and month ago

AAA’s Kokomo metro row shows regular gasoline up 12.8 cents from a week earlier and 53.4 cents from a month earlier. Compared with the same period last year, regular gas is up 33.7 cents per gallon.

At the current metro average, a 15-gallon gasoline fill-up would cost about $54.50. The actual total varies by vehicle size, station and payment method, and the AAA figure is a metro average rather than a price every Kokomo station is charging.

For commuters and households, the month-over-month increase remains the most immediate pressure point. Drivers who fill up weekly would feel the change more quickly than those who drive less or can combine errands. Weekend travelers may also face a larger fuel charge before other trip costs are included.

Diesel remains the sharper year-over-year pressure

Diesel is up 25.3 cents from a week ago and 15.7 cents from a month ago. Compared with last year, however, diesel is $1.488 higher per gallon. That increase is more than four times the 33.7-cent year-over-year increase for regular gasoline.

A 25-gallon diesel fill-up at the current Kokomo metro average would cost about $134.53. The trend is especially relevant to contractors, farmers, delivery operators, trucking companies, restaurants that depend on deliveries and local service businesses using work trucks.
