Lake Ridge Park trail project remains active as summer use continues

Construction continues at Lake Ridge Park on Prince William County’s Cotton Mill Drive Trail expansion, giving Lake Ridge residents and park users a local infrastructure project to watch while summer recreation continues.

Lake Ridge is a census-designated place in Prince William County, and the project is located at Lake Ridge Park, 12350 Cotton Mill Drive in Woodbridge. County records identify the work as ARPA-Lake Ridge Park Cotton Mill Trail, project number 22CA1320.

What the project includes

The county’s project page describes approximately 2,400 linear feet of 10-foot-wide asphalt trail along Cotton Mill Drive. When finished, the trail is intended to provide a safer pedestrian and bicycle connection from the park entrance toward the golf course and marina.

The work also includes stormwater drainage upgrades, pedestrian crosswalks, concrete sidewalk connections to the golf course and pro shop, and a gravel-trail extension from the playground to the new trail. Together, the improvements are intended to create a more continuous route for people walking or bicycling through the park.

Temporary disruptions for park users

The county says construction may periodically block Cotton Mill Drive during storm-sewer pipe installation. The project page also noted a full vehicle closure on March 30, 2026, for work across the road. That closure date has passed, but the county’s project information continues to describe temporary construction restrictions and trail changes.

The gravel trail near the playground and park office may be temporarily blocked or rerouted during construction. The county says the playground remains open, and access to the marina and golf course is not impacted.

County records show a roughly $2.5 million project

The May 20, 2026, Parks and Recreation Commission capital-project update lists a budget of $2,499,492.21. The same record lists $1,459,239.75 in commitments and $1,040,252.47 in actual cost. It reports total cost and commitment of $2,499,492.22, one cent above the listed budget.

The commission materials record July 2026 as the project’s completion date. That is a county-listed target, not independent confirmation that all work was complete as of August 1, 2026. Park users should check the county’s public project page for the latest access and construction information before visiting.

For residents and visitors, the near-term issue is the possibility of brief road blockages and temporary trail changes. The longer-term goal is a safer walking and bicycling connection through Lake Ridge Park while maintaining access to the playground, marina, and golf course.
