RV fire on Sunset Road leaves driver with significant burns
Authorities said an RV caught fire Thursday evening near Sunset Road and Jones Boulevard after gasoline being transported in an unsealed container spilled and ignited. The driver was taken to a hospital with significant burn injuries. Traffic officials reported eastbound Sunset Road lanes were blocked for a period while crews worked the scene and drivers were routed around the closure.
Sunhaven opens as Clark County’s first purpose-built permanent supportive housing community
Clark County officials marked the opening of Sunhaven, a three-story building with 50 apartments at 1400 S. Nellis Blvd. The new community is aimed at extremely low-income residents, people at risk of or experiencing homelessness, and residents living with serious mental illness, with supportive services provided on-site. Project leaders said rent for qualifying tenants will be covered through voucher programs, and the initial waitlist window is expected to run into late March.
Stolen-vehicle chase ends near Flamingo and Arville after a collision
Police reported a pursuit involving a reportedly stolen vehicle that started near Sahara Avenue and Paradise Road and ended near Flamingo Road and Arville Street after a collision with another vehicle. One person was taken into custody, and officers said they had not received reports of injuries at the time of the update. Drivers were urged to avoid the area during the response.
Weekend ramp closures in Summerlin as trail and tunnel work continues
Clark County traffic advisories said the southbound 215 off-ramp to Charleston Boulevard was scheduled to close starting 9 p.m. Friday, February 27, through 6 a.m. Monday, March 2, tied to construction work designed to improve trail access and help pedestrians and cyclists bypass traffic. Additional ramp closures were also announced for March.
Community note: Free shade trees for select ZIP codes
The City of Las Vegas said residents in six ZIP codes may be eligible to receive a free drought-tolerant shade tree, plus planting and an irrigation system, as part of a federally funded urban-heat effort. Eligible areas listed include 89101, 89102, 89104, 89106, 89107, and 89110.
