LBPD Shooting Report, Port Advisory and Election Filing Deadline Lead Local Updates

Long Beach, CA – March 12, 2026 – Police investigated a reported shooting, port officials issued a federal advisory update, and election filing deadlines closed.

It’s been a busy stretch across Long Beach, with public safety updates, port advisories and local election deadlines all making news.

Reported Shooting Under Investigation

Long Beach police are investigating a reported shooting in the 100 block of Victoria Street late Tuesday night.

According to the department’s March 11 blotter, officers responded around 10:22 p.m. after a caller said someone may have fired at their truck. When officers arrived, they were unable to find evidence confirming a shooting. No injuries were reported.

Police say the motive and any suspect information remain under investigation. The case is ongoing.

Port of Long Beach Issues Federal Advisory Update

Port officials released a March 11 operations update noting the National Terrorism Advisory System remains at MARSEC Level I for the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The update also highlighted changes tied to new federal immigration rules. Crew members without U.S. visas are no longer permitted to disembark or repatriate from the port, and medical paroles are now handled case by case.

Shipping channels and depth conditions remain unchanged, with the main channel dredged to 76 feet inside the breakwater.

City Election Filing Period Closes

Wednesday marked the extended close of the nomination period for Long Beach’s June 2, 2026 municipal election.

If an incumbent did not file by the original March 6 deadline, non-incumbent candidates were given until 5 p.m. March 11 to submit paperwork. Candidates must gather between 20 and 30 valid voter signatures and pay a filing fee.

The city will now finalize the list of qualified candidates ahead of the June primary.
